Not too long ago, the honorable Rep. Michele Backmann R-MN, declared “there are terrorists in the House of Representatives.” She may be correct. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, our economy hick-upped for years, the near collapse of World finances, the collapse of the housing market, and the bailout of large companies deemed too large to fail.
Today the Tea Party leadership has gathered together their version of “My way or the Highway”. Defund Obamacare or we will shut down the government. Obamacare, a close copy of Mitt Romney’s health insurance for Massachusetts’s citizens has proven to work. Health care costs have declined every year and all have health insurance. Americans can register for affordable health insurance on Oct. 1st, and will cover 30 million additional Americans on January 1st of 2014. Most states will offer 3-6 companies with different deductibles and coverage. Indications show already, health costs coming down because insurance companies must compete for the business like never before. Pre-existing conditions no longer will be a factor. I saw an example: self employed 59 year old man making $36,000/yr. paying $280/month. The man said he was thrilled to finally qualify for coverage. Yes, it isn’t perfect. The mandates will cause problems and the cost is considerable. The Supreme Court gave its blessing, along with our legislators. It is the law. It’s time to move forward, embrace the facts, and figure it out. The voters elected Obama, warts and all. The Tea Party would do well to back off and fight another day. To threaten to shut down the government for political ideology is irresponsible. The Tea Party has brought up a vote to defund Obamacare forty times and have lost the vote forty times. Such a waste of the public time, money, and trust. They must be terrorists. Look for me Wednesdays, plus anytime.
