Let’s call him Tommy. Tommy waited in ambush for the driver of the refrigerated delivery truck to go inside the grocery store. Within seconds the boy was joy riding through the city in the five ton truck. The police were chasing Tommy. He couldn’t see them, but could hear the whoop whoop of the siren behind him. What fun. Just like Grand Theft Auto. Tommy’s ride was a short one, ten blocks, and then sideswiping three cars, the police were on him with guns drawn. They may have shot him, but they couldn’t find him. Tommy was on the floor laughing at the carnage.
That happened two days ago and today he was riding the light rail from Minneapolis to the airport. The art of the sneak was on his mind. He had successfully sneaked into water parks and events. At the airport, which Tommy had reconnoitered the day before, he grabbed a bag on the carousel to help his cover. That got him through TSA security and a free lunch from a restaurant. The big prize was to board a Delta flight to Las Vegas without a ticket. While the ticket agent was distracted he walked down the ramp and on to the plane with other passengers.
He then disappeared for awhile and showed up in the cockpit flying the plane. No. Not really. Not that he didn’t want to. Tommy is only nine years old and has ADHD plus a variety of mental issues the family is dealing with. Their efforts to get him help have been thwarted by many avenues because the family has no health insurance. He is now being evaluated by the Las Vegas authorities and should be back in Minneapolis soon. This nine year old and his family deserve health insurance like many Americans have, but there are “the haves and the halve not’s”. Tommy has made his name now, rather than later. He has time for help before he hurts himself or others. Obamacare is here and I pray stays. We are the only rich nation in the World that does not provide health care for our citizens. Minnesota has embraced the Affordable Care Act and has created MNSURE to dovetail with it. Looking at rates and coverage’s, the Affordable Care Act in Minnesota has the lowest rates in the nation. Costs from insurance companies have begun to recede because of increased competition among them. I sure wish the “I GOT MINE PARTY” would look at facts rather than the bogymen to make these important decisions. Tommy and America will benefit greatly. Posted every Wednesday or more.
