How convenient for the former Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, to stand back, criticizing the President for his handling of the Afghanistan mess now that his book “Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War” is newly published.  He praises him as a rigorous thinker, unlike Obama’s predecessor, but then criticizes him for questioning a commander, which would be normal at times, disliking a corrupt President, Hamid Karzai, who requires millions of dollars in cash to do the right thing, and then does not, and trying to get out and be done with this war, exactly what the American people want.  Gates says the President did not take ownership of the Afghanistan war.  This all seems to be timely criticism to sell the book.  He had the past couple of years to do this.  What held you back?  Gates is being paid to bring attention to himself and his very long ponderous book.  That’s what the publisher and book sellers want.  I’m sure the Heritage group (Rush Limbaugh), the Tea Partiers, and most Republican’s are banking these comments for the 2014 elections. Bank away.  The President is no Hawk, but he doesn’t back away either. The President will be remembered for getting us out of wars, trying to provide health insurance to the masses, and reviving our economy.  His heart is in the right place, unlike some that are heartless.
